The evolution of the Italian and European agrifood sector between sustainability and wellness

Challenge

To stimulate discussion and debate on the most topical issues related to the Italian agrifood sector among the main Italian and European institutions, in the light of the new EU indications and provisions. This was the purpose of the second edition of the Agrifood event “The evolution of Italian and European agrifood between sustainability and well-being” held in Rome on 9 March 2023 at the Europa Experience David Sassoli.

Solution

The event, organised by WITHUB and its Art.49 Foundation with the editorial direction of EUNEWS and GEA, featured more than 30 high-profile Italian and European speakers in the four main sessions. The event was sponsored by the European Parliament Liaison Office in Italy and the European Commission Representation in Italy. The event discussed Nutriscore and packaging, health warnings on alcohol labels, new food: insects and synthetic meat, and the role of innovation and the NRP (PNRR) push for sustainable agriculture. The main speakers included: Patrizio Giacomo La Pietra – Under-secretary for Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry, Luca De Carlo – Senator, Chairman of the Committee on Industry, Commerce, Tourism, Agriculture and Agri-Food Production, Massimiliano Giansanti – Elected President of Confagricoltura, Pekka Pesonen – Copa-Cogeca Secretary General, representative of European farmers and agricultural cooperatives.
